About the Suzuki Method
“We are born with a natural ability to learn” – these statements contain the whole essence of the remarkable method of the great Japanese violin teacher Shinichi Suzuki.
We are all different, and each of us is talented in our own way. Unfortunately, not everyone succeeds in demonstrating their abilities in life.
Dr. Suzuki found a simple, but at the same time brilliant way to nurture talent in every child. His method is also called "Mother Tongue Method".
From a very early age, children learn to play musical instruments as naturally as they learn to speak their native language. After all, music is also a language. And all children sooner or later begin to speak their mother's language, no matter how difficult it is.
Differences between the Suzuki method
and classical systems
  • Active participation of parents
The child studies with a teacher once a week. The rest of the time, he studies at home with his mother or another adult. The mother keeps notes on the lessons. The mother chooses the time for homework, the mother conducts daily listening to the disc. Sometimes, if desired, the mother studies together with the child. That is, she sets an example for the child, demonstrates her interest in learning. Thus, the Triangle of music is formed: Teacher-Student-Parent. Without one of the parties to this union, real learning according to the Suzuki method is impossible.
  • Early start
The earlier a child begins learning, the faster he moves. Because it is at an early age, up to 6 years, that children have the highest potential of the brain for development and memorization.
  • Positive environment
The child should be in a positive (i.e. Native) environment, and the parents themselves should be an example for their children in the desire to develop and learn new things. In any case, the child should receive praise from the parents, without this approval-support it will be difficult for him to move forward.
  • Daily listening
Children should listen to excellent music every day at home. This creates the very necessary atmosphere of immersion in a new language, and ensures its rapid learning.
  • Repetition of what has been learned
Children learn up to 20 new plays for each year of schooling. But the most important thing in this is not new works, but polishing old ones. Until perfection. This constant repetition gives remarkable results in performance technique and expanding the boundaries of memory. When a child can perform plays he has learned a long time ago and not forget them.
  • No exams
There are no exams in the course. But there are concerts all the time, where even the smallest children demonstrate their achievements and learn to share Music with the audience!

About me
My name is Oksana Stetsyuk. I have been teaching music to children for over 20 years. I graduated from the Moscow College of Music and the Pedagogical University named after. Krupskaya, and then many additional courses on Methods of early musical development, including the Orff and Suzuki system. And I am constantly continuing to improve.

I am the author of a book for parents “Sounds according to Suzuki”, a video course for children “Ensemble” and educational music recipes for children from 3 years old and an audio course “Soloist” for children from birth to 3 years old.

For a long time I was looking for a high-quality system for teaching children to play an instrument, and when I found the Suzuki method: my heart responded!

My piano class now includes children from 3 to 8 years old. All of them undergo training depending on their abilities and the capabilities of their parents. But one thing they have in common is a great desire to learn to play the piano!
